Tony Cragg in the Skulpturengarten Spanischer Turm, Darmstadt, Germany
30 April 2025
From 26 April – 26 October 2025, the Skulpturengarten Spanischer Turm will present the exhibition ‘Tony Cragg’ in Darmstadt's public space. Characterized by an intensive exploration of natural forms and structures, his sculptures reference organic elements from nature. As a young man, Tony Cragg developed a keen interest in the materials, forms, and structures of nature, their life cycle from creation through to their demise. He translates these insights into new, abstract, yet uniquely recognizable forms with repetition and drawing studies playing a central role in his creative process.
On a sculpture trail approximately 1.5 km long, beginning with the over 6-meter-high stainless steel double sculpture Points of View on the plateau of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Mathildenhöhe in the west, continuing through the Rosenhöhe park area and culminating with the fiberglass work Mean Average in the Spanish Tower sculpture garden, which soars approximately 6 meters into the sky, Tony Cragg's works return to nature. In the Spanish Tower itself, the exhibition is complemented by smaller sculptures and drawings.
Parallel to the Darmstadt exhibition, the Heidelberg Sculpture Park will be showing five sculptures in Heidelberg-Schlierbach from May 18 to October 15, 2025.
